Eat apples with the skin because the skin of an apple has antioxidants that can prevent intestinal inflammation. But remember to wash the skin and make sure there is no wax or used pesticides that are still attached to part consumed. In previous studies it is known that the skin of apples could increase muscle mass by 15 percent. Although the enlarged muscle, overall weight has not increased since apple skin also burns 50 percent of bad fats in the body.
Now a recent study published in the Journal of Leukocyte Biology, found consumption of polyphenols (antioxidants found in apple skin) orally can suppress the activity of T cells to prevent colitis in experimental animals.
This study demonstrates the role of T cells against autoimmune diseases and can be therapeutic as well as new treatments for people who have inflammatory bowel disorders such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and colitis associated with colon cancer.
Most people with inflammatory bowel disease using a food supplement to complement conventional therapy, but few people know how this therapy works.
“Our results show that natural products are found in apple skin may suppress intestinal inflammation by inflammatory T cells in enhancing resistance terahdap autoimmune diseases,” said David W. Pascual, PhD, a researcher involved from the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases of the Montana State University in Bozeman , Montana.
Apart from the obvious health benefits of nutrients and fiber in fruits and vegetables, the study also showed that the skin of apples contains other healthy compounds that can have serious therapeutic value.
